MASSAGE

Massage has been correlated with other "touch practices" over the centuries, however, the only type of massage offered is therapeutic massage.  We pride ourselves on specializing in first-time massage by offering a safe, secure environment.  Our therapists treat each guest with respect and honor your trust in them.  We feel blessed that we are able to open the door to healing through massage; after all, massage may be the first time that a guest has been touched in a positive manner.  Old wounds, attachments and "emotional baggage" may be healed and washed away, as may be emotional, mental and physical stresses.

Who will perform my massage?

Licensed, trained professionals with over 500 hours of formal education including classes in anatomy, physiology, therapeutic massage modalities, ethics, etc.  Our therapists are First Aid and CPR trained.

Do I need to undress?

Most massage and body therapies are typically performed with the guest unclothed & proper draping & modesty are crucial to your comfort & privacy.  You may undress to your level of comfort...some individuals prefer to leave their undergarments on - we respect your wishes.  We do ask that you remove your jewelry & glasses in order to promote a more relaxing session.

Won't I be cold during massage?

We've gone the extra step by adding heat-adjustable table warmers to each of our treatment tables so you'll be more comfortable during your session.

What do I need to do?

Please tell your therapist about any injuries, problems or surgeries in the recent past, as well as any pertinent medical problems ~ fill out the New Guest Profile ~ close your eyes, deep BREATHE & relax!  Feel free to ask questions before or after the massage.  For your relaxation & that of guests in the next treatment room, we ask that conversations be kept quiet.  However, please keep your therapist informed of your comfort level & whether you desire lighter or firmer pressure during your session.

How will I feel after my massage?

The majority of our guests are very relaxed; some feel a decrease in long-term aches & pains.  After an initial "slowed down" feeling, many feel enhanced energy and sense of well-being.  These effects of massage are cumulative...

If I have a specific medical condition, can I still receive a massage?

Thorough completion of the New Guest Profile and communication of updated medical information prior to each session is crucial as it informs your therapist of any health issues.  If you are under a health care provider's care, it is advisable that you receive written approval for massage.

Can a massage really help my body to heal?  Is there any research?

Absolutely!  Research on the effects of massage therapy are being conducted daily.  Massage is a widely recognized modality that can assist in recovery from a large variety of illnesses, as well as facilitate the prevention of similar wellness challenges.  For more information, visit www.miami.edu/touch-research.
